Professor Emeritus of Medicine

Overview

Andrew J. Cohen, M.D. is Professor Emeritus of Medicine at Brown University – Warren Alpert Medical School.

Dr. Cohen is a graduate of Wesleyan University (Middletown, Connecticut) and received his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.  After internship and residency (Internal Medicine) at Boston City Hospital, he had a clinical and research fellowship in Nephrology at Beth Israel Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Cohen's research interests include the renin-angiotensin system, diabetic kidney disease, and the impact of health policy on the treatment of kidney failure. Prior to his arrival at Brown, he had 24-year career at the University of Massachusetts Medical School during which time served as Vice Chancellor for Education.  In 2002, he was appointed Chief of Nephrology at the Ochsner Health System in New Orleans.  He returned to New England in February 2008 to take on his current position at Brown.
