Overview

Dr. Edward Akelman is the Vincent Zecchino Professor & Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and Surgeon-in-Chief, Department of Orthopaedics at Rhode Island Hospital and Miriam Hospital, Providence, Rhode Island

Dr. Akelman is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery with Subspeciality Certification in Surgery of the Hand. He devotes his practice to hand, wrist and elbow conditions, and has expertise in treating hand problems such as Dupuytren's disease, fractures of the hand, sports injuries, arthritis and neve problems of the hand, wrist and elbow.  Dr. Akelman’s research interests include nerve compression syndromes of the upper extremities, wrist, and carpal kinematics and radiocarpal injuries. 

He is a graduate of Princeton University and Dartmouth Medical School. He completed his surgical internship and orthopedic residency training at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He completed his hand surgery fellowship training at Roosevelt Hospital in New York City.
