Overview

Dr. Hilliard departed from Brown in Sept 2023 to assume the role of Program Director for the Maine Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program in Portland, Maine.

Ross formerly served as the Associate Residency Director for the Brown University Internal Medicine program and as the Director of Medical Informatics for Lifespan Health System in Rhode Island. A graduate of the General Internal Medicine program at Brown and a former Chief Resident, he enjoyed the chance to work with residents in all areas of their Internal Medicine education. He considers it a privilege to watch residents progress through their training, finding their own professional “fit,” and building plans for future independent practice. Ross’s interests include patient safety and quality improvement, including leveraging Medical Informatics and the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Formerly the Director of Medical Informatics for Lifespan, he worked with a team to improve the hospital system’s EPIC EMR so that it can better serve patients, physicians, and allied health professionals. These efforts centered on improving patient safety and guiding teams to deliver high-quality care to patients.  In addition, Ross enjoyed precepting medical students at the RI Free Clinic and extending outreach to the community as the former Medical Director of the Lifespan Community Health Institute for over 8 years, an organization committed to improving the lives of underserved people and communities in Rhode Island.
