Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

Overview

Dr. Sara Maleki is an Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and a cytopathologist and surgical pathologist. She is the co-director of the Immunohistochemistry Laboratory at Lifespan Academic Medical Center. Before joining Lifespan and Brown, Dr. Maleki was an Assistant Professor of Pathology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a cytopathologist and surgical pathologist at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York.

She obtained her medical degree from the Tehran University of Medical Sciences. She completed her anatomic and clinical pathology residency and chief residency at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she received the Davidoff Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Teaching of Medical Students. She then completed general surgical pathology and cytopathology fellowships at Montefiore Medical Center/The Leopold G. Koss, M.D. Division of Cytology, followed by an oncologic surgical pathology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Maleki is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, and cytopathology by the American Board of Pathology. 

Dr. Maleki is a former president of the Rhode Island Society of Pathologists. She has a particular interest in community outreach programs such as the CAP Foundation See, Test & Treat, quality improvement, and residency training. She has expertise in implementing personalized medicine from limited tumor samples and an interest in endocrine and thoracic pathology.
