Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, Clinician Educator

Overview

Dr. Lawrence is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and a board-certified emergency physician practicing at Rhode Island and Miriam hospitals.  

She graduated from Dartmouth College in 2004 with an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Brain Sciences. She attended medical school at the University of Massachusetts Medical School where she graduated with AOA status. She completed her internship, residency, and chief residency in Emergency Medicine at Brown University.

Dr. Lawrence serves as Assistant Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Rhode Island Hospital, the primary teaching site for the Brown Emergency Medicine Residency, and a busy level I trauma center with annual volume of approximately 104,000 patients. She is the lead physician for safety event review, patient complaints, and ED high utilizers. She also serves the course director for the departmental Morbidity and Mortality conference and started a departmental research operations committee. Her research interests include ED operations and patient communication. Current research focuses on a computer-simulated flow model of the ED. She has presented nationally on hospital flow and alcohol-related trauma.
