Overview

Anthony Napoli, MD FACEP MHL is the Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs in the Department of Emergency Medicine with clinical oversight of 5 emergency departments serving over 250,000 patients annually.  He also serves as Academic Director for the School of Professional Studies’ Master in Healthcare Leadership. He is a Professor of Emergency Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine and Professor of Health Services, Policy, and Practice in the School of Public Health

Dr. Napoli previously graduated summa cum laude from University of Pennsylvania with a B.S.E. in Bioengineering in 1998.  He graduated from Georgetown University Medical School in 2002.  He subsequently trained in Emergency Medicine at Brown University Medical School/Lifespan Hospitals. Dr. Napoli obtained an Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership from Brown Unviersity School of Professional Studies in 2015.  He served as an advisor for a number of years before taking over as Academic Director in 2021.

Dr. Napoli has developed extensive research expertise, publishing over 50 manuscripts in such areas as noninvasive measures of fluid responsiveness in sepsis patients, management of the post-cardiac arrest patient, chest pain and acute cardiovascular disease, disparities in healthcare resource utilization, emergency department clinical decision units and clinical operations.  He served as director of the Rhode Island Hospital Emergency Department Observation Unit before taking over as Chair and Medical Director at the Van Bueren Emergency Department of Newport Hospital and subsequently as Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs.  He continues to publish widely and speak nationally on emergency department operations and healthcare leadership.  He also currently serves as co-director of the Brown Emergency Medicine fellowship in Emergency Medicine Healthcare Leadership and Administration.
