Clinical Professor of Family Medicine

Overview

I am board-certified in internal medicine and preventive and occupational medicine and an epidemiologist. I am the past Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health and current Editor of the The Journal of Scientific Practice and Integrity. I have a broad range of interests including research misconduct and the marketing of toxic pharmaceuticals, silicone implants, radiation exposure, asbestos exposure and health (NOT just health care) in under-developing countries. I also research the history of the development of knowledge of warnings and health effects and the epistemology of scientific knowledge.

My work as an expert witness has uncovered many different types of corporate and government malfeasance. I have vigorously fought for the release of sealed company documents uncovered during litigation. For example, I sought to unseal documents pertaining to the serious harm produced by Merck’s painkiller, Vioxx, and Eli Lilly’s neuroleptic drug, Zyprexa and Oxycontin; whose manufacturers concealed and misrepresented risks known to them from the public and regulatory agencies.

I have testified before the House Subcommittee on Energy and Commerce, the President’s Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments, and FDA advisory committees.

I am President of the Board, Global Health Through Education Training and Service, a non-profit that funds women's health and COPC medical school curriculum development in under developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
