Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine

Overview

Dr. Grumbach cares for patients at the Medicine-Pediatrics Primary Care Center and is a member of the Brown faculty where he has been since 1996.  At the MPPCC, he sees entire families of patients, people of all ages, including refugees and transgender patients. Dr. Grumbach also teaches fantastic medical residents and students, which he loves. He finds that teaching is a two-way street and has learned constantly from his patients, the residents and medical students. Dr. Grumbach enjoys interacting with people and trying to get an idea across to achieve a mutual goal. As a combined internist – pediatrician who has been treating children and adults for more than 20 years, he is fortunate to be able to do this every day and he finds it greatly rewarding.

Dr. Grumbach worked at Anchor Medical Associates, a private practice, for 18 wonderful years in the role of Physician Chief.   He left in May 2018 to join MPPCC and this has enabled Dr. Grumbach to pursue a new calling in the world of biomedical and medical start-ups, innovation and entrepreneurship which began at an MIT Hacking Medicine event at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York City where he led a team which won the Weill Cornell Medicine Award. In addition, Dr. Grumbach enjoys mentoring at the Jonathan M. Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship at Brown University and the MIT Hacking Medicine Grand Hack in Boston.  He is an advisor at the Social Enterprise Greenhouse in Providence, and he has consulted in the biomedical technology world.  These are exciting times in the start-up health care arena, and Dr. Grumbach is eager to learn and contribute, using the clinical, academic and office management experience he has accrued in over two decades of clinical practice and academic medicine.
