Dr. Bastan is a member of the faculty of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University, and is the Scientific Director of Toxicology in the Department of Pathology for Lifespan Academic Medical Center. Dr. Bastan obtained his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Providence College in Providence, RI. After serving as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Army Reserve (Major in the Civil Affairs/Special Operations Command), he joined the Toxicology Laboratory of Rhode Island Hospital. He is an expert in the chemical analysis and chemical detection of compounds and their metabolites in blood and urine. He lectures in the Clinical Chemistry section of the Board of Rhode Island Schools of Allied Health, in the Pathology Residency Program lecture series, and in the School of Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
