Abbas Rupawala, MD joined the faculty at Brown in 2017 as Assistant Professor of Medicine. He is a part of the Gastroenterology division of Brown Medicine/Brown Physician's Inc where he is the co-director of the Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Center. He grew up in India where he attended medical school at Seth G.S. Medical College and K.E.M. Hospital in Mumbai, India and graduated with honors in Surgery. He came to United States in 2010 for residency in Internal Medicine at University of Massachusetts in Worcester, MA and was selected to be Chief Resident. He went on to fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology also at the University of Massachusetts and was also the chief fellow. His clinical and research interests include Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Eosinophilic esophagitis, Immunotherapy mediated GI toxicities, C.difficile infection and fecal microbial transplant, small bowel bleeding, capsule endoscopy and deep enteroscopy. He is passionate about teaching and has received accolades for teaching students, residents and fellows. He also enjoys patient advocacy and working with underserved communities in the state of Rhode Island.
