Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Associate Professor of Epidemiology


Dr. Werner is the Division Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at the Alpert School of Medicine and Women & Infants Hospital.  She is a national expert on diabetes in pregnancy and leads the Diabetes in Pregnancy clinic at Women & Infants Hospital.  She currently has funding from both the NIDDK and the NICHD to investigate predictors of poor outcomes in pregnancy.  She is also a national expert on cost effective practices in obstetrics and her research in this area focuses on using pregnancy outcomes to help women improve their health postpartum.  She is the co-director of the Hassenfeld Prospective Cohort at Brown University, a pregnancy and birth cohort including over 5000 women and children aimed at improving child health through research.  She has previously been funded by the American Diabetes Association and is the NICHD Maternal Fetal Medicine Network alternate PI.  Dr. Werner is an editor for Up-To-Date, the American Journal of OBstetrics Gyneclogy-MFM, and the American Journal of Perinatology.
