Dr. Kurt joined the Pathology Faculty at Lifespan in August 2018 as a Molecular Pathologist and Hematopathologist. She has been appointed at Brown University to the faculty in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine as an Assistant Professor.
She attended Hacettepe University Medical School in Ankara, Turkey where she received her M.D in 2005. Following graduation, Dr. Kurt spent several years as a postdoctoral fellow at Yale University in Connecticut, and later at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.Her publications are in the molecular biology of cancer, especially lymphoid and myeloid neoplasms, including characterization of IDH1-mutated cells in myeloid neoplasms. Her work has been published in Modern Pathology, American Journal of Surgical Pathology, and British Journal of Haematology. Dr. Kurt was accepted into the Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency Program at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in 2011 in Columbus, Ohio, graduating in 2015. She then moved to Houston, TX to complete a Hematopathology Fellowship and an Advanced Research Hematopathology Fellowship at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, graduating in 2017. She completed a Molecular Genetic Pathology Fellowship in the same department in 2018. At the present time, Dr. Kurt is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, holds specialty certification in Hematopathology, and is board-eligible in Molecular Genetic Pathology, all from the American Board of Pathology. She is a member of the Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP), Society for Hematopathology (SH), American Society of Hematology (ASH), and the US and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP).
