Katherine M. Sharkey Assistant Professor of Medicine, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior

Katherine M. Sharkey, MD, PhD is assistant professor of Medicine and Psychiatry & Human Behavior at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University.  She completed her MD-PhD at Rush University in Chicago, IL then stayed on at Rush for a combined internal medicine and psychiatry residency.  Dr. Sharkey joined the Brown faculty in 2007.   She is board certified in Sleep Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Psychiatry.  She is Medical Director of the University Medicine Sleep Center and Associate Director of the Sleep for Science Research Laboratory of Brown University. Dr. Sharkey is a fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and chairs the Academy’s Circadian Rhythms Steering Committee.  She serves on the editorial boards of Behavioral Sleep Medicine and Sleep Health .  Dr. Sharkey’s research focus is sleep and circadian rhythms, particularly as they relate to mood regulation and women's health.
