Katherine M. Sharkey Assistant Professor of Medicine, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior

Katherine M. Sharkey, MD, PhD is assistant professor of Medicine and Psychiatry & Human Behavior at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University.  Dr. Sharkey completed her MD-PhD at Rush University in Chicago, IL where she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha.  She completed a combined medicine and psychiatry residency at Rush and joined the Brown faculty in 2007.   Dr. Sharkey is board certified in Sleep Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Psychiatry.  She is Medical Director of the University Medicine Sleep Center and Associate Director of the Sleep for Science Research Laboratory of Brown University. Dr. Sharkey is a fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and chairs the Academy’s Young Investigator Research Forum.  She is an Associate Editor of Behavioral Sleep Medicine and serves on the editorial board of Sleep Health.  Dr. Sharkey was recently named to the Society for Women’s Health Research Interdisciplinary Network on Sleep. Dr. Sharkey’s research focus is sleep and circadian rhythms, particularly as they relate to mood regulation and women's health.
