Jewish and Christian identity in the ancient world
Novelistic literature in the ancient world
Jewish and Christian Apocrypha
My research focuses on social and religious identity of Jews and Christians in the ancient world, and I explore this mainly through narrative genres, such as Jewish novellas, courtly and wisdom literature, and early Christian gospels. I am completing a major commentary on the ancient Jewish novella Book of Judith (preserved in the Apocrypha of the Bible), and am co-editor of the forthcoming Jewish Annotated Apocrypha from Oxford University Press.
