Lecturer in Applied Mathematics

Overview

Amalia Culiuc is a lecturer in Applied Mathematics. She earned her PhD from Brown University, held a postdoctoral position at Georgia Tech, and was an Assistant Professor at Amherst College before joining the Division of Applied Mathematics in 2023. Her research interests are in harmonic analysis, particularly weighted estimates for singular integral operators.

As a pure mathematician by training, she enjoys teaching courses that bring together rigorous arguments and practical applications. In her classes, she encourages teamwork, communication, and building intuition first and foremost, often through independent projects or computer-assisted simulations. She strongly believes in learning with and from her students, especially those who doubt their mathematical abilities.
