Adjunct Associate Professor of the Practice of Health Services, Policy and Practice

Overview

Alex is an associate professor of Health Services, Policy and Practice at Brown University’s School of Public Health where she teaches public health leadership courses and teaches a health law class at the School of Professional Studies.

Alex is also President & CEO of New England Donor Services (NEDS), a nonprofit serving over 200 hospitals, 14 transplant centers and a population of nearly 15 million people in a six state service area making it one of the top 3 largest Organ Procurement Organzations in the U.S.  Since 2020 NEDS has increased organ donors in the region by over 80%. NEDS has been named as a top 100 Female Led Business by the Boston Globe and The Commonwealth Institute for the past 7 years in a row (2018-2024).

Alex has held multiple leadership roles within the national system of transplant as a member of the OPTN Board of Directors, Chair of the Policy Oversight Committee (leading the strategic coordination of national organ policy development), Chair of the Ethics Committee, and as a member of the medical peer review Committee.

Alex was twice appointed to the U.S. Sec of HHS, Advisory Committee on Organ Transplantation (ACOT) and is on the Board of the American Society of Reconstructive Transplant as well as the Board of Donate Life America.

Alex started her career practicing health law at the firm Ropes & Gray and became New England Organ Bank’s General Counsel before serving as its CEO. Alex holds an undergraduate degree in bioethics from Brown University and a JD-MPH from Boston University where she also previously taught as law faculty.
