Overview

Dr. Ryan is a professor in the Department of Health Services, Policy, and Practice at Brown University and Director of the Center for Advancing Health Policy through Research. His research focuses on understanding and evaluating the effects of health care payment reform. Dr. Ryan has performed extensive work evaluating national programs designed to improve the quality and value of health care by changing the incentives faced by hospitals, physician practices, Accountable Care Organizations, and Medicare Advantage plans. Much of this work has involved detailed econometric analysis of longitudinal data. Through Dr. Ryan's participation on national technical expert panels and steering committees he has also developed a deep understanding of the policy issues related to the use of financial incentives to improve health care spending value in the U.S. Prior to his appointment at Brown, Dr. Ryan was a professor at the University of Michigan.
