Adjunct Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

Overview

Dr. Andersen is semi-retired from a long career involved studying the modes of action of chemical substances in intact animals and in simpler in vitro systems.  He also was a pioneer in using physiologically based pharmacokinetic modeling to describe the uptake, distribution, storage and elimination of componds from the body.  Currently, he has a continuing interest in streamlining toxicity testing procedures to greatly reduce the use of animals and focus instead on studies of human cells and human multi-cellular systems that will provide more pertinent information for decision making about the safety of substances used in commerce.
