Diet-related diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and certain cancers are associated with the majority of morbidity, mortality, and health care spending nationally. There is an urgent need to prevent these diseases from developing early in life. My research contributes towards generating evidence on the prevention of chronic diseases by focusing on one of the key contributing behaviors: eating. My work has focused on 1) understanding factors that shape eating behaviors early in life among diverse, underrepresented populations and 2) developing community-based interventions among these populations.
