Overview

Fellowship-trained in spine and scoliosis surgery, as well as both spine and orthopaedic research, Dr. Bassel Diebo treats all spine disorders and scoliosis conditions across adolescence and adulthood, including degenerative spinal conditions (stenosis and spondylolisthesis), and spinal curvatures such as scoliosis, kyphosis, and lordosis. His areas of focus are complex and revision spinal reconstruction, flatback syndrome, adolescent and adult scoliosis, Hip-Spine Syndrome, full-body three-dimensional alignment, and posture.

Dr. Diebo is considered a leading authority in spinal alignment and posture and one of the most published spine surgeons of his generation with more than 250 publications at the National Library of Medicine and upward of 1,000 podium presentations, books, and chapters under his name. Among multiple recognitions, Dr. Diebo was named one of ExpertScape’s Top World Experts in Lordosis, Kyphosis, and Scoliosis; the recipient of Brown University’s Lucas-Palumbo Award for Excellence in Orthopaedic Spine Surgery; named one of Becker’s Spine Review’s “Ten Spine Surgeons Under 45 to Know” in 2022; and in 2020 he was listed among North American Spine Society’s “20 under 40.”

Dr. Diebo attended medical school at Aleppo University in Syria before fleeing the war-torn country. Once in the United States, Dr. Diebo obtained extensive medical and surgical training through fellowship and residency programs. Dr. Diebo completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at The State University of New York in Brooklyn, New York. Previously, completed research fellowships in spine surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery and NYU Langone Medical Center's Hospital for Joint Diseases, both in New York. Most recently, Dr. Diebo completed a fellowship in complex adolescent and adult spine and scoliosis surgery at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and took part as an inaugural traveling fellow with the International Spine Study Group (ISSG) which is accepted as one of the leading foundations of spine surgery research in the world.
