Dr. Tylenda is Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior (DPHB).
For many years, Dr. Tylenda served as Associate Director (for APA Postdoctoral Fellowships) to the Brown University Clinical Psychology Training Consortium.
Since 1997, Dr. Tylenda has continuously served as Chief Psychologist to the Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities (CADD) at the Emma Pendleton Bradley Hospital in East Providence, RI. She also serves as Associate Director of the CADD Inpatient Service at Bradley Hospital. The CADD at Bradley Hospital is the nation's largest and most comprehensive specialty clinical care program for children with autism spectrum disorders and/or intellectual disability and their families. The program offers a continuum of clinical care settings including inpatient, partial hospitalizationt, residential, and outpatient services to families. Within the CADD, Dr. Tylenda serves as Primary Clinical Supervisor to Psychology Residents who complete the Child Track Primary Rotation in Developmental Disabilities and to Psychology Postdoctoral Fellows who complete fellowships in Developmental Disabilities.
Dr. Tylenda has been actively involved in the training of Clinical Child Psychologists for her entire career. Prior to being at Brown, she served on the faculties of Auburn Universiy, Newington Children's Hospital/University of Connecticut, and Assumption College administering and teaching in their APA-approved clinical psychology graduate school programs, APA-approved clinical internship programs, and postdoctoral fellowship programs.
Dr. Tylenda's primary clinical interests are in the areas of infant and child assessment as well as the diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescents who present with intellectual disability (ID), autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and concomitant psychiatric disorders.
Dr. Tylenda is a frequent lecturer and author of numerous book chapters and articles in professional journals. Her topic areas include infant and child assessment, developmental disabilities, and attachment disorders. She serves as an expert witness in the area of attachment disorders. Dr. Tylenda also has authored young children's books which address sensitive topics in developmenally appropriate context.
