I obtained an M.D. from Faculdade de Ciencias Medicas da Santa Casa de Sao Paulo (FCMSCSP), Brazil, a M.Sc. from Univ. of Montreal, a Ph.D. from McGill Univ. and complemented my training with molecular cardiology during my postdoc at Mass. Gen. Hospital. Aside the intense electron microscopy and molecular biology training, I was exposed to large animal models (dogs and pigs) of heart failure and hypertrophy. Since 1996, associated with the Cardiothoracic Divisions (BIDMC and now RIH), I have been studying the effects of drugs and supplements in hypercholesterolemic and diabetic pigs subjected to chronic and acute models of myocardial ischemia. In 2008 I became the US organizer of a short-term wet bench annual training program for FCMSCSP medical students.
