Cole Swensen is the author of seventeen volumes of poetry and a collection of critical essays, most recently On Walking On (Nightboat Books, 2017). Various books have been awarded the Iowa Poetry Prize, the San Francisco State Poetry Center Book Award, and the National Poetry Series, and have been finalists for the National Book Award and twice for the Los Angeles Times Book Award. A 2007 Guggenheim Fellow, she was the co-editor of the 2009 Norton anthology American Hybrid and is the founding editor of the translation press "La Presse." She is a translator of contemporary French poetry, prose, and art criticism, and won the 2004 PEN USA Award in Literary translation. She taught at both the University of Denver and the Iowa Writers' Workshop before coming to Brown. Her poetry is research-based, often focusing on the visual arts and/or historical subjects.
