Gary Frishman, MD is a Clinical Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
Dr. Frishman received his undergraduate degree from The University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. He completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia and a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Connecticut.
Dr. Frishman joined Brown University; Women & Infants Hospital in 1991. Dr. Frishman’s research and lecture interests include hysteroscopy, ectopic pregnancies and medical education. Within the Alpert Medical School of Brown University, he was the Dean’s letter (MSPE) writer for the Postgraduate Referral Committee from 1998-2005 and the Course Co-Director for Bio 351 Pathophysiology from 2004-2008. He served as the Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program director from 2008-2018 and subsequently as the fellowship director for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. In addition to recognition from Brown, he has received national teaching awards from ACOG, CREOG, and twice from APGO. He has lectured extensively having given invited talks throughout North America as well as on four other continents. Dr. Frishman was an oral board examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 2006 until term-limited in 2022. He served a six-year term on the Review Committee for Obstetrics and Gynecology within the ACGME in addition to being on the working group for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Milestones 1.0 and Reproductive Endocrinology Milestones versions 1.0 and 2.0 (and was the only physician in the United States to be on all committees). He has also consulted with the International arm of the ACGME (ACGME-I). He is currently serving a six-year term on the ACGME Accreditation Appeals Panel for Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Frishman has held multiple leadership positions in surgical societies and journals having served on the boards of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) a 7000+ member organization with representation from over 100 countries, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), and the Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery. He was President of the Society for Reproductive Surgeons as well as President of AAGL. He served as the American representative on the International Editorial Board for the UK journal The Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and served as Deputy Editor for the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology for 10 years before assuming the role of co-Editor-in-Chief in 2023.
Locally, has served on the boards of City Year Providence as well as Big Sisters and Day One, having held the position of vice president in those latter organizations and most recently sat on the Advocacy Board for the Rhode Island Blood Center.
