Dr. Gabby Headrick is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Brown University's School of Public Health. Gabby studies how social, environmental, and political forces shape food and nutrition security in the United States, with a particular focus on urban food systems. Her path to this work began at the University of Vermont, where she studied dietetics as an undergraduate with a focus on food systems, and continued through clinical work as a dietitian at Johns Hopkins Hospital, public health practice at the Cambridge Public Health Department, and policy and program consulting with the Food Policy and Planning Division in Baltimore City. Collectively, these experiences continue to shape her community-engaged approach to research today. Gabby prioritizes co-developing research questions with practitioners, policymakers, and grassroots leaders positioned to translate findings into action. Throughout her work, Gabby brings together food systems, nutrition, social science, urban planning, and health policy through collaborations with federal and local government officials, nutrition advocacy organizations, and community-based food and nutrition leaders. She earned her PhD and MSPH from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and her BS in Dietetics from the University of Vermont. Gabby is also a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
