Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior

Overview

Dr. Salem graduated from the Cairo university where he earned his M.D. degree as well as M.Sc degree in surgical sciences. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from the university of Lübeck in Germany studying mechanisms of neuroplasticity and cellular regeneration. He completed his psychiatry residency in the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center/McGovern School of Medicine at Houston, where he also completed a physician educator certificate program (PECP), in addition to a Healthcare management program. In his final year of residency training, he served as the chief resident for research track, where he developed the program’s first comprehensive didactics curriculum for the research track psychiatry residents.

Dr. Salem enjoys teaching medical students and Brown psychiatry residents throughout their core rotations and didactics.

Dr. Salem’s clinical interests include mood disorders, psychopharmacology and interventional modalities. His research interests include cognitive neuroscience, neurophysiology, neuroimaging, and AI-applications in psychiatry.
