Overview

Research in Prof. Jonathan Pober’s group focuses on developing new techniques for studying the Epoch of Reionization and associated Cosmic Dawn, when the first stars and galaxies illuminated the early Universe.  Using low-frequency radio astronomy, we hope to detect highly-redshifted 21 cm line emission from neutral hydrogen during these periods of early cosmic history.  Extracting this hydrogen signal from other radio signals (both human-generated and astrophysical) is a tremendous challenge and requires the development of new experiments and analysis techniques for it to be successful.  Our research is at the forefront of developing novel analysis approaches and applying them to data from cutting edge experiments.
