Over the last two years, I have dedicated much of my effort to developing, refining, validating, and applying epidemiological models of the local COVID-19 epidemic to help the Government of Rhode Island make informed policy and resource-allocation (including vaccine allocation) decisions. In my past research, I have focused primarily on post-operative survivorship care for non-metastatic colorectal cancer patients. However, I also have interests in interventions aimed at prevention, treatment, and harm reduction for substance use disorders; using modeling to evaluate interventions along the entire continuum of care for cancer; and interventions aimed at Alzheimer’s (AD) patients and their caretakers. I am currently leading a cost and cost-effectiveness analysis (done in parallel with an ongoing RCT) of a peer support counseling intervention designed to support justice-involved individuals on probation or parole with an opioid use disorder (OUD). This work (PI: Dr. Rosemarie Martin) is funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse and is part of a broader research effort by the Justice Community Opioid Innovation Network (JCOIN) to improve care and outcomes for justice-involved individuals with OUD. I am also working on an NCI-funded project (PI: Dr. Tom Trikalinos) to develop, calibrate, and validate population models of bladder cancer to help address major public health and clinical questions in the prevention, screening, surveillance, and treatment of bladder cancer. This work is part of NCI’s broader effort (the CISENT consortium) to use population modeling of cancer to improve cancer detection and control.
