Jieyu Zhou received her Ph.D. in Chinese Linguistics from the University of Washington, Seattle in 2025. Before joining Brown, she taught Chinese language courses in both heritage and non-heritage tracks at Northwestern University and the University of Washington, as well as in the Princeton in Beijing summer immersion program.
Her research focuses on second language acquisition and Chinese language pedagogy, particularly the acquisition of linguistically and cognitively challenging features of Chinese by adult learners. She is interested in developing research-informed instructional approaches that support learners’ linguistic development and improve classroom outcomes. Her current research examines how intermediate- and advanced-level learners acquire formal Chinese collocations and explores the implications of collocational knowledge for curriculum design and classroom instruction.
Her work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals including Frontiers in Psychology and Applied Linguistics.
