Assistant Professor of Medicine, Clinician Educator

Overview

Dr. Gibas is the Associate Medical Director of Epidemiology and Infection Prevention at Rhode Island Hospital as well as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. His main research interests include implementation science, health disparities, and health services research and how these can be used to study and implement interventions to prevent healthcare-associated infections, particularly among our most vulnerable patient populations.

Dr. Gibas graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City's combined Bachelor of Liberal Arts (BLA) & Doctor of Medicine (MD) program in 2017. After medical school Dr. Gibas went on to complete a residency in Internal Medicine as well as a training program in Global Health at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Following residency, Dr. Gibas moved to Nashville, Tennessee to begin his Infectious Diseases fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. During his second year of fellowship Dr. Gibas was selected to be a Chief Fellow for the Infectious Diseases traning program. Also during his Infectious Diseases fellowship, Dr. Gibas received a Masters of Public Health (MPH) with a focus in Health Policy from the Vanderbilt School of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Gibas received funding through the Vanderbilt Patient/pRactice Outcomes Research in Effectiveness and Systems Science (PROgRESS) Training Program in the Center for Clinical Quality and Implementation Research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center to conduct research as a postdoctoral research fellow focused on geographic and sociodemographic disparities in late HIV diagnoses in Tennessee.

Dr. Gibas graduated from the Vanderbilt School of Medicine MPH program in May 2023 and then the Vanderbilt University Medical Center PROgRESS postdoctoral research fellowship and the Vanderbilt University Clinical Infectious Diseases fellowship in June 2023. Dr. Gibas subsequently joined the Brown Medicine Infectious Diseases faculty in August 2023. 

Dr. Gibas holds board certifications in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
