Lanre Akinsiku is a multi-genre writer who finds inspiration in exploring the process of wandering, the instability of narrative and language, and the opacity of the self.
Lanre’s short fiction and essays have appeared in NPR, the Washington Post, the Kenyon Review, Gawker, Zocalo Public Square and elsewhere. He is the author of Blacktop, a young adult book series which received starred reviews from Publisher's Weekly and Kirkus Reviews, was named as one of Best Books of the Year by the New York Public Library, and earned the Freund Prize for Creative Writing.
Lanre’s teaching is informed by a life-long obsession with meandering, as evidenced by his previous work as a truck driver, bartender, speech writer, organizer and journal editor. His courses emphasize experimenting with craft approaches from different disciplines, learning about the artistic value of play, and building community-based writing practices.
