Senior Research Scientist of Health Services, Policy and Practice

Overview

Lori Uscher-Pines is a Distinguished Senior Research Scientist at the Brown School of Public Health. Her research interests include telehealth, AI, maternal and child health, and behavioral health. Her current projects include assessing the impact of various forms of telehealth such as telemental health on quality and access to care. She is also conducting a digital trial evaluating the effectiveness of virtual doula support via mobile app. She is a mixed methods researcher who has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications in journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, and Health Affairs. She is regularly quoted in the media and interacts with policymakers on digital halth topics. 

Uscher-Pines earned her Ph.D. in health policy and management from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and her M.Sc. in international relations from the London School of Economics. Before coming to Brown, Uscher-Pines was a health services researcher and professor of public policy at RAND.
