Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior (Research)

Overview

Dr. Michelle Aiello (she/her) is an Assistant Professor (Research) in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University and a licensed psychologist at Brown University Health where she provides treatment to Latine and Hispanic youth in the Mi Gente Program. At present, Dr. Aiello is involved in grant-funded projects that investigate the mental health outcomes of culturally tailored interventions for Latine and Hispanic youth with suicidality. Dr. Aiello’s research also explores the relationship of exposure to community violence and mental health.

Dr. Aiello earned her associate degree from Miami Dade College and later transferred to the University of Central Florida where she became a McNair Scholar and earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology. She received her Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Georgia State University where her research broadly focused on exploring the experiences that affect the mental health, well-being, and educational outcomes of underrepresented students in STEM. In 2020, she was awarded the American Psychological Association’s Interdisciplinary Minority Fellowship to engage in work focused on reducing mental health disparities experienced by minoritized communities. Following her predoctoral internship at Emory University, Dr. Aiello completed her postdoctoral research fellowship at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Bradley Hospital.
