Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, Clinician Educator

Overview

Matthew R. Klein, MD MPH is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, Clinician Educator at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. 

Originally from Chicago, Dr. Klein graduated from Alpert Medical School in 2014. He trained in emergency medicine at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University, where he served as chief resident, and then completed a two-year fellowship in medical education scholarship.

Before joining the Brown Emergency Medicine faculty in 2023, Dr. Klein previously served as clerkship director and an assistant program director at Northwestern. He currently teaches second-year students in the Doctoring course and is a member of the medical school admissions committee and the medical committee on academic standing and professionalism. Clinically, he works as an attending physician at Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital.

Dr. Klein's academic interests include curriculum design, simulation-based mastery learning, and career advising.
