Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Clinician Educator

Overview

Dr. Serrano is an attending physician at the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at Rhode Island Hospital/Hasbro Children's Hospital. She completed her pediatric endocrinology fellowship at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and her pediatric residency at Children's Medical Center/UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Medical School at the School of Medicine of Tecnologico de Monterrey, in Monterrey, Mexico.

She is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and she is double board certified in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Endocrinology. 

Dr. Serrano's passion and research focuses on decreasing cardiometabolic risk in at-risk children, leveraging medications, lifestyle interventions and technology. She is co-director of the Insulin Resistance Clinic at Hasbro Children's Hospital, as well as a faculty affiliate of the Mindfulness Center at Brown University.

Dr. Serrano has received funding from the Children's Miracle Network and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She is a funded Junior Investigator on the National Institutes of Health Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) IDeA States Pediatrics Clinical Trials Network (ISPCTN) and a member of the ISPCTN Obesity Working Group. She is an Early Stage Investigator (ESI) on the NHLBI ENRICH (Early Intervention to Promote Cardiovascular Health of Mothers and Children) multicenter award and previously co-chaired the ENRICH ESI committee. She is an early career investigator for the Rhode Island Hospital site on the NIH ECHO Cohorts and she was awarded an NIH supplement to study the interaction of the food environment and sleep on eating behavior in children with asthma.

Dr. Serrano is a member of the Society for Pediatric Research.
