Mostafa Z. Khalil has obtained his MD from Al-Azhar university in Cairo, Egypt. His long passion and experience in social work and advocacy during medical school years has got him into the field of Psychiatry. He did his first residency at Hamad Medical Corporation in Qatar where he was trained in the main Psychiatry facility for a diverse one and half million population. This has shaped his practice into how cultural differences shape mental illness presentation and treatment. Dr. Khalil obtained the Arab Board of Psychiatry and the Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the UK. He developed passion for computational neuroscience, and to pursue his career as a physician scientist, he did his second residency at Penn State University then started working at Rhode Island Hospital following graduation, aiming to continue his research trajectory, using biophysically-realistic microcircuit computer models of the neocortex.
Dr. Khalil is currently a general adult psychiatrist with broad clinical experience/interest backed by theoretical interest in neuroscientific/computational formulation of normal brain functions and psychopathology. Clinically, applying the bio-psycho-socio-spiritual formulation individually for each case is an integrated aspect of his work.
