Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine, Clinician Educator

Overview

Dr. Asselin started his medical career as a Firefighter/EMT in a small town in Southeastern Massachusetts.  After medical school at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, he completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the Rhode Island Hospital/Alpert Medical School of Brown University where he was a Chief Resident.  He next completed a fellowship in Emergency Medical Services at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, returning to join the Brown faculty in 2016 and completing a Master's Degree in Medical Education Leadership from the University of New England in 2017.

 

Dr. Asselin was appointed the Program Director for the Brown Emergency Medicine Fellowship in EMS in 2019 and coordinates residency EMS education at Brown.  He is also an active EMS Medical Director for numerous Rhode Island EMS Agencies, including Brown University EMS.

 

Dr. Asselin is Board Certified in both Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Academy of Emergency Medical Services.  He currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council Education Subcouncil.
