Associate Professor of Health Services, Policy and Practice

Overview

Patience Moyo Dow, Ph.D. is a member of the Center for Gerontology and Healthcare Research and is also affiliated with the Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies at the Brown University School of Public Health.

Dr. Dow is a health services and policy researcher with expertise in the use of large administrative data to conduct epidemiologic and policy analyses related to the care and health outcomes of people with opioid use disorder and/or chronic pain. She has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and competitive internal funds to study: 1) pain management with pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic therapies, 2) access to and utilization of skilled nursing facilities by people with opioid use disorder, and 3) medication treatment of opioid use disorder in Medicaid. Her work incorporates both quantitative and qualitative research methods.

Dr. Dow received doctoral training in Pharmaceutical Health Services Research from the University of Maryland Baltimore. Subsequently, she completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Health Policy Institute (Center for Pharmaceutical Policy and Prescribing) and the VA Pittsburgh Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion.
