Professor Emeritus of Geological Sciences

Overview

He received his BA from Carleton College in 1966 and Ph.D. in Astronomy at the University of Texas at Austin in 1972. After being awarded an NRC Post-doctoral Research Associate at the NASA Ames Research Center, he became a Staff Scientist (then Senior Staff Scientist) at the Lunar and Planetary Institute (Houston). In 1984, he became an Associate Professor in the Department of Geological Sciences at Brown University and was promoted to full Professor in 1994. Since 1973, he has published over 170 peer-reviewed papers, authored or edited 4 books, and over 500 abstracts. In addition to his research and teaching responsibilities at Brown, he served as the Director for the Northeast Planetary Data Center,  the NASA/Rhode Island University Space Grant Consortium , and NASA/Rhode Island EPSCoR Program.
