Dr. Soukas is actively involved in cardiovascular clinical research, particularly in the areas of carotid stenting, renal stenting with embolic protection, and the treatment of lower extremity limb ischemia using novel devices. He has been a site principal investigator in over 80 clinical research trials, and has lectured at many national and international scientific sessions on various topics involving vascular and endovascular medicine.

 

Dr. Soukas has been actively involved as a site principal investigator in the field of carotid stenting. He was the leading New England enroller in the NINDS-sponsored landmark CREST Trial, a randomized trial of endarterectomy vs. stenting with embolic protection. He's been a site investigator on over 20 carotid trials.

Dr. Soukas has been involved in the the evaluation of renal artery stenting and embolic protection. He was a site investigator for the CORAL, Florence and VIVA-Fortress renal trials.

Dr. Soukas has been actively involved in the evaluation of novel treatments for the treatment of lower extremity disease. He's been a site principal investigator on over 80 endovascular trails and is the Global PI for the RELINE MAX trial of covered stenting for the treatment of in-stent restenosis.

• TRANSCEND - The Randomized And Controlled Noninferiority Trial to Evaluate Safety and Clinical Efficary of the SurVeil™ Drug-Coated In Treatment of Subjects with Stenotic Lesions of the Femoropopliteal Artery Compared to the Medtronic   IN.PACT® Admiral®   Drug-Coated Balloon: TRANSCEND Study.
• DETOUR II - The DETOUR II Study - PQ Bypass System for Femoropopliteal Bypass (Percutaneous approach)
• DISRUPT PAD - Randomized study of the Shockwave Medical Peripheral Lithoplasty® System used in combination with DCB versus standard  balloon angioplasty used in combination with DCB to treat moderate and severely calcified femoropopliteal arteries
• DISRUPT CAD - Prospective, Multicenter, Single-Arm, Global IDE Study of the Shockwave Coronary Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) System with the hockwave C2 Coronary IVL Catheter in Calcified Coronary Arteries (Disrupt CAD III Study).

Dr. Soukas is the Director of the Brown Vascular & Endovascular Medicine Fellowship Program, a full year advanced fellowship in the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients with vascular disease. The fellowship is a rigorous PGY-8 experience in all facets of non-invasive and interventional vascular therapeutics. He is actively involved in the daily teaching of the cardiology and interventional fellows and Brown medical students rotating through the coronary care unit.
