Overview

Qing Zhao Ruan, MD, DABA is an Assistant Professor at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and an attending physician in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the Providence VA Medical Center.

Dr. Ruan received his medical degree from University College London (UCL) Medical School, one of the United Kingdom's leading academic medical institutions. Prior to specializing in anesthesiology, he completed postgraduate training in General Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, and Staten Island University Hospital, Northwell Health. This diverse surgical background has provided a strong foundation for his multidisciplinary approach to perioperative care, interventional procedures, and complex pain management.

He subsequently completed his residency in Anesthesiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, followed by fellowship training in Interventional Pain Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine, with advanced clinical experience at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Hospital for Special Surgery. He is dual board-certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Ruan's clinical practice focuses on interventional pain medicine, neuromodulation, minimally invasive spine interventions, and multidisciplinary strategies for the treatment of chronic pain. His research interests span pain medicine, regenerative medicine, artificial intelligence in healthcare, and the translation of novel biomedical technologies into clinical practice.

An active clinician, educator, and investigator, Dr. Ruan has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, reviews, and scholarly works in interventional pain medicine, regenerative medicine, and emerging healthcare technologies. He is actively involved in resident and medical student education and is committed to advancing evidence-based patient care through innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and translational research. His current academic interests include the development of neuromodulation technologies, regenerative therapies, artificial intelligence, and translational cell-based approaches for pain management and cancer therapeutics, with the goal of accelerating the translation of scientific discoveries into meaningful clinical advances.
