Title: Facilitating HIV/AIDS and HIV testing literacy for emergency department patients
This project is a randomized, controlled trial evaluating information delivery mode (video or pictorial brochure) on HIV/AIDS and HIV testing information. These study findings will inform emergency departments if information delivery mode should be selected for patients by language and/or health literacy level. The results also will inform when, how, and for whom information needs to be provided for those testing again for HIV within one year, and the impact of these factors on HIV re-testing behavior within one year.

This project is a randomized, controlled, longitudinal trial investigating the effectiveness of a brief intervention among emergency departments to decrease drug misuse, the behaviors associated with drug misuse, and the negative consequences of drug misuse. Decrease in HIV and hepatitis C risk behaviors and an increase in uptake of screening for these infections as a consequence of the brief intervention are also evaluated as outcomes.
