Assistant Professor of Medicine

Overview

Sergey Solomevich is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and a Research Scientist at the Brown University Health Cardiovascular Research Center. His research integrates biomaterials engineering, chemical biology, lipid science, and nanotechnology to develop innovative therapeutic strategies for cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases.

Dr. Solomevich received his Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry from Belarusian State University, where he developed polysaccharide-based hydrogels and nanoparticles for controlled drug delivery and regenerative medicine. He subsequently completed postdoctoral training at the University of Michigan, where his research focused on developing synthetic high-density lipoprotein (HDL) nanodiscs as therapeutic platforms for targeted drug delivery and immune modulation. These platforms were used to induce antigen-specific immune tolerance in preclinical models of autoimmune disease and to attenuate inflammatory responses in experimental models of sepsis.

At Brown University, Dr. Solomevich investigates the mechanisms by which lipids regulate inflammation, thrombosis, and cardiovascular disease. His current research includes the development of synthetic HDL nanoparticles, studies of oxidized lipoproteins and lipid mediators, and the application of targeted lipidomics and metabolomics to identify molecular pathways that drive vascular disease and therapeutic responses. He is the principal investigator of an American Heart Association Career Development Award focused on developing next-generation HDL-based therapeutics for cardiovascular disease.
