Dr. Tracey Guthrie is Professor Emerita of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, Clinician Educator, and Professor Emerita of Medical Science, Clinician Educator at the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University, Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior. She served as Program Director of the Brown Psychiatry Residency Program from 2015 to 2024, and then as Co-Program Director (2024-2025) and then Senior Residency Advisor for the General Adult Psychiatry Residency Program (2025-2026).
Dr. Guthrie graduated from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. She continued her training at the Brown Psychiatry Residency Training Program and was Chief Resident. She became a faculty member of the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior (DPHB) in 1999. Dr. Guthrie has been involved with medical student education at Brown since 2002 and with psychiatry residency training since 2005. She has served in many leadership roles within the Department, including Associate Clerkship Director and Clerkship Site Director for Brown medical students in Psychiatry, Assistant and Associate Residency Program Director in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, Director of the Residency Continuity Clinic, and Vice Chair for Clinical Faculty Affairs. Dr. Guthrie was the Program Director for the Brown Psychiatry Residency Program from 2015-2024, and also served as Vice Chair for Clinical Faculty Affairs in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior from 2021-2024.
Dr. Guthrie has received several teaching awards, including The Outstanding Teaching Award, both in Medical Education and in General Psychiatry; The Innovation in Medical Education Award from the Memorial Hospital Internal Medicine Training Program; The Psychiatry Resident Award to Talented and Learned Educators (PRATTLE award); The Triple Board Program Teaching and Advocacy Award; the Diversity in Action Award, and the Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. Guthrie is Past President (2026-2027) of the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training (ADDPRT). Dr. Guthrie was an Associate Dean for Student, Trainee, and Faculty Belonging in the Office of Belonging Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. She is committed to supporting Brown’s growth toward an inclusive environment by enhancing recruitment and support for underrepresented minority students and trainees, and providing mentorship for students, trainees, and faculty. She retired from Brown in 2026.
