Dr. Alaa Elnajjar graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (M.B.B.Ch.) from Ain Shams University, Cairo, in 2009. She went on to complete combined psychiatry-neurology residency training at Ain Shams University, where she also earned a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Neurology and Psychiatry and later her Doctor of Medicine (M.D.).
Dr. Elnajjar completed general psychiatry residency training at New York Medical College, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, in 2019, where she received the Teaching Excellence Award for her contributions to medical student education. She then pursued fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, graduating in 2021.
Her academic recognition includes being named a Diversity Leadership Fellow by the American Psychiatric Association in 2019, receiving her first research grant through the APA Junior Research Colloquium in 2020, and earning the Resident Recognition Award for Excellence in Family-Oriented Care from the Association of Family Psychiatrists in 2021.
At Brown, Dr. Elnajjar serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior and an Attending Psychiatrist at Bradley Hospital. She chairs the Well-Being Committee in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and leads institutional initiatives on trainee mentorship, peer support, and physician well-being. Her scholarly and programmatic work centers on digital access to care, resilience promotion, and equity-driven strategies to support medical trainees and faculty.
