Overview

Benjamin Berey, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Psychaitry and Human Behavior in the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He holds a joint appointment as a Research Health Scientist at the Providence VA Medical Center. Dr. Berey received his Ph.D. in Health and Human Performance from the University of Florida where he completed a predoctoral fellowship at the Southern HIV and Alcohol Research Consortium. He completed postdoctoral fellowships at Brown's Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies and Alcohol Research Center on HIV before joining faculty in 2024. He directs a VA-funded program of research focused on experimental and prospective, observational (ambulatory assessment) methods to understand how cannabis use affects sleep behavior and physiology across diverse populations. Other research foci include human laboratory paradigms to study alcohol use disorder etiology and using different technologies (e.g., smartphone apps, biosensors) to measure and reduce alcohol use among young adults and persons living with HIV.
