L. Herbert Ballou University Professor Emeritus of Neuroscience, Professor Emeritus of Medical Science, Professor of Neuroscience (Research)

Overview

My research interests include the functions of cells, synapses, and circuits in the cerebral cortex and thalamus, and mechanisms of epilepsy and neurodevelopmental disorders.

I received my PhD from Duke University in physiology and pharmacology, worked as a postdoctoral fellow and faculty member at Stanford University, and joined the Brown faculty in 1987. I served as Chair of the Department of Neuroscience from 2006 to 2016. I am currently a Professor Emeritus of Neuroscience, and I no longer run a research laboratory.
