Overview

Dr. Camila Cosmo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She serves as Associate Director of the Brown General Psychiatry Residency Program, VA Site Director, and Curriculum Associate Director. She is also an Investigator and Staff Psychiatrist at the Center for Neurorestoration and Neurotechnology at the VA Providence Healthcare System.

Dr. Cosmo received her medical degree from Faculdade de Medicina da Bahia in Brazil and completed her M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Neurophysiology/Neuropsychiatry at the Universidade Federal da Bahia through a collaborative program with Harvard Medical School. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Neuromodulation at Harvard. At Brown, she trained in the Psychiatry Residency Program, in the NIMH R25-funded research track, and served as Chief Resident. She received the NIMH Outstanding Resident Award, the Laughlin Fellowship, the Career Development Institute, and awards from the Society of Biological Psychiatry, the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, and the Excellence in Triple Board Training Award.

For nearly a decade, Dr. Cosmo’s research has examined the mechanisms and clinical application of noninvasive neuromodulation techniques, particularly repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation, in neuropsychiatric disorders. Her work focuses on targeting impulsivity and its neural substrates, with a particular interest in developing novel brain stimulation protocols for disorders marked by impaired inhibitory control, such as Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.
