Overview

Dr. Nie is a board-certified child neurologist and epileptologist at the Children’s Neurodevelopment Center (CNDC) of Brown University Health/Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Rhode Island. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) in child neurology and in epilepsy/clinical neurophysiology. Dr. Nie’s clinical practice focuses on the diagnosis and management of complex neurological disorders, with particular expertise in epilepsy care encompassing pharmacologic therapies, dietary interventions, epilepsy surgery, and neuromodulation. He serves as faculty in the Clinical Neurophysiology and Epilepsy Fellowship programs within Brown Neurology and as an attending physician in the multidisciplinary epilepsy surgery program at Rhode Island Hospital/Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Nie’s research investigates the molecular and network mechanisms underlying early-life epilepsies and related neurodevelopmental disorders. His prior work examined mTOR pathway dysfunction in autism and epilepsy—co-occurring neurological conditions in patients with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC)—supported by Autism Speaks and The Manton Center for Orphan Disease Research at Boston Children’s Hospital. He is a member of the Center for Translational Neuroscience (CTN) at Brown University, where his current work focuses on biomarker discovery and precision-medicine approaches to childhood epileptic encephalopathies.
