Assistant Professor of Engineering

Overview

Joy received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Stanford and her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from MIT. Following this, Joy worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Chemistry and Chemical Biology department at Harvard. Joy joined the faculty at Brown in 2025.

The Zeng Lab is an experimental electrocatalysis group motivated by grand challenges in sustainability. We are interested in using electricity to convert abundant, renewable, or waste feedstocks into society’s essential fuels and chemicals. Applications of interest include energy storage, industrial decarbonization, and waste (e.g., plastics, PFAS, methane) valorization. Within these applications, we seek to expand the repertoire of reactions that can be facilitated electrocatalytically while also diving into the molecular details of how phenomena unique to electrode surfaces can alter catalytic outcomes.

Further details can be found on the Zeng Lab webpage.
